Magnesium reacts with Nitrogen gas to produce Magnesium nitride. Find the following:Word equationChemical equationBalance equation
Ms. Caponpon, kindly solve the following equations ask in this chemical reaction.
Hello, everyone. Let me show you first the word equation.
Magnesium + Nitrogen gas ➡️ Magnesium nitride
Write the name of reactant on the left part of equation then put an arrow towards the right indicating that it "yields" the name of product.
Mg(s) ➕ N2(g) ➡️ Mg3N2(s)
Chemical equation consist of the chemical formula of the reactants and products. Its subscript also shows if it is liquid, solid or gas.
Mg(s) ➕ N2(g) ➡️ Mg3 N2(s)
So how you're going to balance a chemical equation?
For balancing an equation, make sure that the number of reactants and products are equal.
3Mg(s) ➕ N2(g) ➡️ Mg3N2(s)
I put a coefficient of 3 in the reactant so there is three Magnesium and two Oxygen equal in both sides.
3Mg(s) ➕ N2(g) ➡️ Mg3N2(s)
That's right Ms. Caponpon, you can take your seat.
Thank you sir.
