  • At the beginning of the book Okonkwo was known as a very powerful and successful member in his tribe and people both respected and feared him. his bad relationship and view of his father influenced him throughout his life to work hard so he wouldn't end up like his father
  • 7 ish years later
  • a lot of Okonkwo's problems and bad luck had started after he had killed his adopted son, Ikemfuna. He felt guilt for killing Ikemfuna but didn't want to appear weak and did it anyway.
  • Okonkwo had gone through both negative and positive life experiences and relationships throughout his life. Although his fear of weakness and failure had eventually led to his demise. after feeling the guilt of killing his son, Okonkwo had experienced one bad thing after another, from being exiled to his farm being burned to the white men invading his home, he had gone through a lot and eventually had given up. and in the end all the things he went through and the relationships he had, led to his tragic ending.
  • at the funeral for one of the powerful leaders of the tribe, Okonkwo had accidently killed the son of the leader when his gun malfunctioned, leading to the tribe having to exile him (and family) for 7 years. this experience affected him greatly because before he had been know as a respectful and powerful man and when exiled his hard work and title had burned along with his home and farm.
  • Okonkwo's unwillingness to change his views and abandon his culture after coming home from exile, finding the white men invading, had eventually led to his death. After he had killed the messenger, feeling hopeless Okonkwo hung himself because he couldn't deal with the changes that the white men were making in his village.
