- This gift sucks! Why didn't you get me what I asked for?
- Little kid! You should be grateful that you even got a gift. When I was young, I never got any gifts.
- When I was living in Brazil, my family was very poor. My parents worked all the time but they barely got enough money for food sometimes.
- When I turned 10, I was forced to go earn money for my family. I was sent to a farm to work. It was terrible working there. The place was unsanitary and the work was dangerous at some times. I had to work long hours just to get a dollar a day. The adults there didn't even care about me. I never got to complain about any of the work they gave me.
- I was only able to get out of that situation when the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child was passed. I remember it like it was just yesterday. It was one of the happiest days of my life. Nobody could force me to do work anymore but if I still wanted to work, I would not have to do any work that would harm me. Also, I would finally get paid more without working super long hours.
- So you should be grateful that you can even get a gift. Some people have it way worse. Next time try thanking your mom instead of yelling at her.
