Abraham was a shepherd that lived in Ur, Mesopotamia around 1700 BCE. He was the Patriarch of the Hebrew people and made a covenant with God. God promised Abraham that if he moves his people to Canaan, that it will be the Promised Land for all of the Hebrew/Jewish descendants.

Jacob and his family moved from Canaan to Egypt because of famine in Canaan. Egypt has a abundance of grain. Once they arrived to Egypt the pharaoh enslaved Jacob and his family, due to the pharohs mistrust of them.

Moses was an Israelite, or descendant of Jacob, who was adopted by the pharaohs family. God wanted Moses to rescue the Israelites so Moses asked the pharaoh to let him lead the israelites out of Egypt.

The Book of Exodus describes the terrible hardships that god brought to Egypt because of the pharaoh's refusal to let the Israelis go. The worst punishment was the death of the Egyptian's first born sons. These punishments were so bad the Pharaoh agreed to let all the israelites go free. Each year the Jewish people celebrate Passover to commemorate the Exodus, or journey from slavery in Egypt to freedom.
The ten commandments is a list of the most important laws in the Torah. The second commandment describes Monotheism or not to worship another gods or false idols. The ten commandments are important to those who practice Monotheism because is people believe in god and obey gods laws god will protect them and support them.
The book of Joshua describes the return to the Promised Land. Joshua conquered the high wall city of Jericho by marching 7 times around the walls, then the preiset blew the rams horns, then the walls of the city fell. The tribes of Jacob settled in different areas. The tribe of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin settled in the South while the other tribes settled in the North.
