  • Pontiac's Rebellion led to the Proclamation of 1763, which worked well and kept peace between the Indians and the colonists for the most part over 20 years
  • Battle of Fallen Timbers
  • However, after the Americans won the American Revolution, settlers ignored the treaty and began moving west beyond the Appalachian Mountains. More and more Native Americans found their land being invaded by settlers.
  • A New Military Norm
  • On June 30, 1794, Miami Indians, Shawnee Indians, Delaware Indians, and many others rallied around chiefs Little Turtle and Blue Jacket in an attempt to move the Americans off of their lands.
  • Signing the Treaty of Greenville
  • President Washington ordered a military force to defend the American settlers. The Battle of Timbers ends the rebellion.
  • On August 20, 1794, the American troops were victorious. This battle led to a national policy of using military force to subdue Indian revolts.
  • Native Americans were forced to sign the Treaty of Greenville which declared that they had to give up their lands in what is now Ohio and Indiana to the United States.
