- Eric, you have depression.
- It seems that your Dad's death has made you very sad Eric.
- Eric's Mom grew concerned about Eric and took him to the doctor to see what was going on. She hoped that he would be able to help Eric.
- Here is your prescription, Eric!

- After several parent-child interviews and multiple screenings, Eric was diagnosed with major depressive disorder. In order to get help, Eric had to be honest with his doctor about how he was feeling.
- Eric's Mom also took him to see a therapist named Jackie so that he could understand his feelings. Jackie was very helpful! She helped Eric realize that he became depressed after his Dad passed away.
- Jackie referred Eric to a psychiatrist because she believed that Eric needed medication for his depression. He was prescribed an anti-depressant known as Prozac (an SSRI).
- Thanks to Eric's medication and his visits with Jackie Eric started to feel better. So much so that his shadow stopped speaking to him. Although Depression was still there, he was quiet and did not speak to Eric.
- Eric started talking to his friends and doing his homework again. He was truly feeling better!
