- What even happened there?
- A poorly designed experiment at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant led to several massive explosions. These explosions up to 30% of the 190 metric tons of uranium into the atmosphere.
- In most of the radioactive places, animals died or stopped reproducing. But now, the exclusion zone is a thriving ecosystem, despite the radiation levels. Plants and animals here have adapted to the environment.
- Wait...what's radiation?
- A total of 3,500 people had to relocate, unaware that they'd never return.
- The exclusion zone is an area of 1600 square miles that is inhabitable due to radiation levels. Chernobyl and Pripyat are inside this zone. These cities are part of modern day Ukraine, but were part of the Soviet Union when the accident occurred.

- The Chernobyl disaster led to a sharp increase in thyroid and other cancer rates . Radiation has many negative side effects on health.
