  • Unfortunately, Robert's good fortune didn't last for long. The stock market crashed drastically, around the time Hoover was elected to office, the American economy went into the greatest economic downfall the country had ever seen. Hoover furthered the crisis. 
  • Robert lost his house and all the money he invested. He was struggling to make the end meet. Most Americans were facing a similar reality. 
  • Robert went to the bank but there was no money for him to withdraw. The bank reported that they just didn't have it. What was Robert supposed to do?
  • Robert reached out to some family that lives in the Southern Plains to see if they could support him at all, but it seemed they may have had it worse. The Dust Bowl was sweeping through the region putting the economy and agriculture into distress. 
  • Things were on a downward slope for a while until FDR was elected and came into office with a plan! FDR was the created and conducted The New Deal. Robert supported FDR, partially because all the programs were of benefit to him. Robert always listened to FDRs fireside chats to keep him informed and encouraged. 
  • Slowly, relief programs like the FERA helped Robert get his house back!
