I am rocky. I am now an igneous rock. I was formed from cooling and hardening of magma and lava. When the magma or lava cools,it may crystallize and harden, a process known as solidification. The rock that forms as a result is known as igneous rock.I have a glassy texture.
This is me! I was broken down into sediments due to weathering and erosion. Wind and water gather sediments into a pile called sediment bed.
If I move deeper into the Earth in the form of a metamorphic rock then I will have to melt and become back to magma. In this stage, I have ribbon like layers. Stratification, the layering that occurs in most sedimentary and igneous rocks formed at the earths surface,as from lava flows and volcanic fragmental deposits.
Overtime the sediment beds get buried. The pieces of rock become cemented together to form sedimentary rock. Now I am a sedimentary rock due to compaction and cementation. I look like a crystal rock in this stage!!
If I could stay in the same spot without getting buried, due to erosion and weathering I will change into a sediments again.
If I get buried in the Earth, I will have to undergo metamorphosis. That means the heat and pressure from the Earth will bake me into a new rock called metamorphic rock. In this stage, I have ribbon like layers.
When the magma cools down I will again become an igneous rock. This is how my life works, the rock cycle.
I started my life as an igneous rock which happenend when magma cooled and hardened, but by a process called weathering it became sedimentary rock. While I was buried, I went through metamorphosis. Heat and pressure made me a metamorphic rock. If I go deeper into the Earth, I will have to undergo melting and become magma again thus the rock cycle continues.
