  • Great Britain had controlled trade in the American Colonies. After the French and Indian War and they had a massive war debt.
  • The Boston Massacre
  • The Stamp Act was required that all paper documents such as newspaper, pamphlets, wills, and even playing cards have a stamp.
  • The Boston Tea Party
  • The Quartering Act required governments to provide lodging and food for British troops. Many colonists believed the British troops did not need to remain in the colonies since the war with the French had ended.
  • The Intolerable Act
  • King George III still needed additional taxes from the colonists. Goods such as glass, lead, points, paper and tea that are imported from Great Britain were taxed.
  • The Boston Tea Party allowed the British to sell its tea directly to the colonists. The colonial merchants because they were no longer to sell tea. Member of the Son of Liberty dressed differently and dump 342 boxes of tea. Those patriots made sure none of the tea would be sold.
  • King George III wanted to punish the colonists for the Tea Party new laws were passed that the colonists called the Intolerable Acts. Those acts were meant to allow the British government to take full control of the colonies. The India Company had to repay for the tea that was destroyed.
