  • One Islamic cleric specifically didn't agree. His name was Ayatollah Khomeini. In 1963, he started to go against the Shah.
  • In 1964, Khomeini was deported by the Shah. While he was not in Iran, the people were going against the Shah. Iran was suffering from violence and riots everywhere.
  • He then returned in 1979, and participated in the ongoing revolution.Khomeini set about restoring Islamic heritage and appointed people called "Komitehs".
  • These people would incite violence and substituted for lack of government systems. They were always armed and acted as vigilantes towards people not following Islam to their standards.
  • By the time the revolution was over, there was a newly crafted constitution. With a parliament and democratically elected government. However, the system was just as oppressive as the one Khomeini protested.
  • So, was the Iran revolution successful?
  • In conclusion, the Iran revolution was successful in its goal to overthrow the shah and establish a new government. However, the people of the country were still struggling economically & socially.
