Note that one would need to provide proper ID, a parent/legal guardian consent form, and money for test/learner's license fees.
I would first start studying for 50 question knowledge test using the various resources available such as Learn to Drive Smart, the practice knowledge test, the road signs practice test, and Street Sense.
Step 1: L License: Passing the Knowledge Test
I would then answer at least 40 of the multiple choice answer to pass the test.
Then, I would book an appointment at an ICBC driver licensing office. After bringing the required ID, parental consent/supervision, and fees, I would be able to begin the test.
Step 1: L License: Driving Restrictions
1. One can only drive with a qualified supervisor of age 25+ in the passenger seat of the vehicle.2. The L sign given must be displayed on the back of the vehicle.3. One cannot drive with alcohol/drugs in their system.4. Other than the supervisor, only one other passenger is permitted in the vehicle.5. No electronic devices such as cellphones are permitted.6. No driving is permitted between 12AM and 5AM.
Step 2: N License: Preparation
I would take the ICBC-approved driver's training course in order to take the N Road Test in only 12 months instead of 18 months.
I would prepare for the N Road Test by practicing with a supervisor and by taking a driver training course.
Practicing would help me get accustomed to the various scenarios and settings that a driver could find themselves in such as different weather and time of day
Even if you do not pass the first time, you can always retry after 14-60 days depending on how many times you have taken the test.
Step 2: N License: Passing the Road Test
For ID, one would need to provide their photo learner's license and another piece of photo ID
One can take the Road Test after having their L license for at least 12 months. During the ~45 mins test, an examiner will take me on a route that is designed to exemplify my driving skills safely.
Step 2: N License: Driving Restrictions
N Licenses only have four driving restrictions as opposed to L licenses which have six restrictions:1. No alcohol/drugs permitted while driving.2. The N License must be displayed on the back of the vehicle.3. No electronic devices like cellphones are permitted while driving.4. One passenger limit unless a 25 or older supervisor is present
I would also make sure to secure and maintain privacy for my N license to protect myself from identity theft.
