  • Under the rule of Justinian, an autocratic ruler, the Byzantine Empire reached its peak. He was known for creating a collection of ancient laws called Justinian's Code. This set of laws became the foundation for many future laws as well as today's international laws. Justinian also blended Greek, Roman, Persian, and Middle Eastern styles into his architecture such as the Hagia Sophia.
  • Feudalism was established in European medieval societies after the Roman empire collapsed in the west. Feudalism was a system that offered protection, and based on land and loyalty, land-owning lords offer up some of their lands in exchange for the loyalty and protection of the knights. This system also aided in protecting the communities from violence and warfare from outside forces after the fall of Rome.
  • The Roman Empire was divided in the late AD200's when power was shifted to the east and Germanic invaders built her a new castle. By 330, the Emporer of Constantine and built a new capital city in Constantinople on site of Byzantium. The breakdown also waited in trade as well as maintaining the roads.
