  • A man named Oedipus, rescued a city terrorized by a Sphinx. Oedipus was hailed as a hero after solving the riddle, and the widowed queen married him as a reward. As a result, Oedipus became king of Thebes.
  • The Oracle
  • Do not worry your father is dead, the oracle cannot be true.
  • Everything is aligned with what the oracle declared
  • Oedipus is urged by a priest and his followers to find a means to rescue the city from the plague. Creon, his brother in law, returns and informs Oedipus that they must hunt down the assassin who killed Lauis, the former king. Oedipus vows to track down and exile the culprit.
  • The Prophecy is True

  • Tiresias, the renowned blind seer, is summoned to tell Oedipus what he knows. Tiresias first refuses to answer, but when pressured, he reveals that the killer he is searching for is Oedipus himself. Oedipus denies the prophet, and accuses Tiresias and Creon of schemes and treachery.
  • Oedipus Becomes Blind
  • Jocasta steps in and convinces Oedipus not to be concerned. Oedipus begins to explore about Laius' death, and the circumstances proceed to resemble those of Oedipus' experience. However, a Messenger from Corinth arrives to notify Oedipus that his father is deceased and that he shouldn't be worried about the prophecy. Though there's that other portion of the prophecy, Oedipus asks questions about his mother, and the Messenger answers him that he was adopted.
  • Jocasta understands the truth that Oedipus is both her son and her husband and orders him to stop the investigation. Oedipus refuses to listen, and an witness, a shepherd who saved him as a baby, verifies that Oedipus is the child of Laius and Jocasta, and that Oedipus murdered Laius.
  • A servant alerts Oedipus about Jocasta's suicide, Oedipus is distraught and tormented of the repercussions. Afterwards, Oedipus takes his own sight and blinds himself. Oedipus seeks exile and grieves alongside his children. Creon takes control.
  • I was so ignorant and blind to the truth!
