  • Nicolaus Copernicus Scene #2
  • “Son, I have fallen ill. I don’t think I will live much longer. “
  • “How could this be? Why…? “
  • “Please, son… don’t pursue a fallen dream. It’s not worth the struggle.”
  • “What do you mean, dad?”
  • “I mean that you should pursue something that you can do. Don’t try to become a scientist; I need you to trust me. It’s not worth the effort.”
  • “But dad, I want to do this.”
  • “NO! LISTEN TO ME! This is your father’s dying wish, for once in your entire existence, listen to me!”
  • Copernicus finds his dad laying in a bed. He is sweating, and his skin has turned a little gray. He can barely stay awake. Copernicus stands beside his bed.
  • “Very well, father. I will not become a scientist. You have my word. “
  • “I cannot believe that most likely, the last words I will direct towards my father are lies.”
  • Copernicus proceeds to leave the room without knowing the faith that awaits his father. Hours later, his father had succumbed to the unknown illness that had fallen upon him. Copernicus continued to mourn and grief the loss of his loved father, knowing that the last words he had directed towards him were lies and deceit. He could only think of four words that meant so much to him but now had fallen upon the dark well of uselessness since they were not useful anymore. “I am sorry, father.”
