  • The Allies were coming in on the West and The Red Army was coming in from the East, which forced the Germans to split there forces which eventually led to Berlin being captured and Hitler killing himself. Then the surrender than Germany signs the "Act of Military Surrender" and ceasefire on may 7. 1945.
  • The Soviet's are both friend and foe to the American's because they formed an alliance to help each-other in the war effort against the Germans which showed that they are willing to put aside there differences to help each other. But the Americans also saw that they were being overrun by fascist so they distrusted each other.
  • The Manhattan Project was the research and development of the atomic bomb. Which was lead by the United States, but the British and the Canadians helped in the project also. The project was created August 13, 1942. The first bomb the Trinity was detonated July 16, 1945, and far exceeded the expectations of the scientist working on the project.

  • On August 6, 1945, Enola Gay took on an early morning to bomb Hiroshima. Hiroshima had a population of 300,000 was bombed, the blast power was equivalent to 15,000 tons of TNT, which killed 70,000 people on the initial impact. And 69,000 more people injured, and the lasting affects of the bomb will affect the people for years to come.
  • The next bomb nicknamed "Fat Man", just three days later at 3:47 a.m. was flown off to bomb Nagasaki, at 11:02 a.m. with a force 40% greater than the Hiroshima bomb; killed 40,000 people on initial impact. The Radius of the explosion was 3.2 km, and destroyed about 70% of the industrial zone and 23% of the buildings were consumed by flames. The "Fat Man" was the last atomic weapon that was ever used in war.
  • What Lead to the Japanese surrendering was a combination of the Atomic bomb and the USSR joining the war. For the Japanese there situation looked helpless, so japan surrendered September 2, 1945. Following this surrender, the war was over and japan was left desolated by famine and it's own government. Over 2.3 million soldiers were killed and another 800,000 civilians.
