- the official start date was august 15 1096, the armies that left before the time were named as the peoples crusades three of them never made it past Hungary, the other two were defeated by kilij arslan of nicea. the first crusade dealt with those who left after this official start date, they gathered at Constantinople then captured nicea while kilij arslan was away but later on they defeated an army of his at dorlayuem. later on a faction of them seized Edessa and Antioch. the crusaders waited out the summer heat from adhemars death. they were forced to continue but after 3 months in arqah the crusaders conquered Jerusalem in 1099 before the pope urbans death without him knowing

- Muslims respond after the first crusade was in 1144 when they conquered Edessa a capital city of the crusaders at the time. the Christians response was by calling for the second crusade to return Edessa their capital back from Muslims. the second crusade was lead by 2 European kings, louis v11 of France and conrad111 of Germany. both countries took separate routes to Anatolia and both were defeated by the seljuk Turks. this was the end of the second crusade which was considered a failure for christians and a huge victory for muslims.
