  • The Louisiana Purchase doubled the size of the US . At first, Napoleon did not want to give away his land but due to the war, he was in need of money so he gave away the entire Louisiana territory for just 15 million dollars.
  • Alamo (1836)
  • Captain Lewis was selected to be the leader to explore the west and find a water route that led to the Pacific Ocean. Lewis recommended Captain Clark to accompany him as co-leader so they both set of with about 40 men they set off on their mission. With the help of Sacagawea, they were able to bring back journals full of maps, facts about the plants & animals there, all well as information about how the Native Americans lived.
  • The Oregon Trail (started on 1830)
  • The Indian Removal Act was passed to indicate that all American Indians living east of the Mississippi River had to move out of the area into reservations. Most Indians moved out peacefully but a few tribes did not want to leave and tensions grew. It caused a battle called the Battle of Little Bighorn. The Americans were outnumbered and easily defeated but it wasn't long before more soldiers came and attacked. The Native Americans lost and were forced to leave. The moving of the Indians is called the Trail of Tears.

  • The Alamo was a fort built be Texan rebels before the battle occurred. this battle happened because of a conflict between the Mexicans and Americans. There were 184 Americans against thousands of Mexican soldiers sent by the president of Mexico. The Americans lost but the when the next battle showed up, Houston-the leader of the Americans told them to keep the people who had died in the last battle in mind. He also said,“Remember the Alamo”.
  • The Oregon Trail was used when a pioneer traveled from the eastern side of the US to the west in hope of a good business.. It was a more that 2,000 miles long and many hardships were faces when crossing it like cholera, snake bites, and wild animals. Sometimes you would run across an indian and maybe make a trade. Most encounters with the Indians were peaceful. To stay safe, people would make a wagon train which was a line of wagons that moved together.
  • After James Marshal had found the first gold nugget in California and the president had even announced that the gold was real, the news was the talk of the US. Nearly everyone wanted to go west and find gold. Just like that, a few houses sprinkled around the land, turned into a huge city! Sadly the emigrants faced many hardships and most of them never found gold. Everyday items were costly and the fights and murders were normal. The woman found a bright side in the situation and got jobs like cooking for the men. Most of the men would die with a disease or go home empty handed but a bit smarter.
