A richman in a town once had a dog and a cat. The dog had been loyal to his master for many years, but he had lost his teeth and was no longer able to fight. But,along with the powerful and clever cat, he was an excellent guide and company to the daughter who was attending school at a convent some distance from home.
Climax
The owner sent a cat and a dog to bring a magical ring to his daughter. The old man instructed the dog to escort the cat over the river while the cat guarded the ring and notto drop it. They agreed to do their best not until they have to cross a river without a bridge or a boat, and the only way to do it was to swim.
Falling Action
As they were trying to swim into the river, the dog took hold of a magic ring."I am strong and capable of looking after it," the dog said, "in addition, you can't swim". The cat refused to give up the ring until the dog threatened to kill her, at which point she reluctantly handed it up.
Resolution
They were exhausted since the river was wide and the water was rapid, and the dog lost the ring just before they reached the opposite bank. They looked everywhere but couldn't find anything, so they returned to their owner to inform him of the tragic loss. However, just before reaching the home, the dog became so terrified that he turned and ran away, never to be seen again.
The cat continued her own, and when the master spotted her approaching, he asked as to why she had returned so quickly and what had happened to her companion. The poor cat was terrified, but she recounted how the ring had gone missing and how the dog had run away. When the master heard her story, he became enraged and ordered that all his people and all the dogs to join the search, and that it bepunished by having its tail cut off.
Since then, whenever a dog meets another, he asks, "Are you the old dog that misplaced the magic ring?" If that's the case, your tail must be severed.”Then, to establish that he is not the guilty one, each exposes his fangs and waggles his tail. Cats have been scared of water since then, and if they canavoid it, they will not swim across a river.
