  • "You give us hope" (pg 1).
  • The Priest says this to Oedipus. He is viewed as a great leader by his people because he gives them reason to believe. (wide shot)
  • "I am at your service" (pg 2).
  • Creon says this to Oedipus, but he does not just say this for himself. All of the people appreciate and respect Oedipus as their ruler and believe in him to rid them of this plague. (wide shot)
  • "For I will do what can be done; and either, by the grace of God we shall be saved--or we shall fall" (pg 4).
  • When Oedipus says this, he shows his fearlessness. He is not the type of leader to back down from a challenge. (wide shot)
  • "If you'll not speak from pleasure, speak from pain" (pg 25).
  • Oedipus is now going through an angry denial stage since he is frustrated with Theban for not telling him about the child. (wide shot)
