Lodges and organizations emerged as means to help the Afro-Caribbean communities,
Marcus Garvey arrives in New York where he achieved to advocate for the rights of the negro people.
Even though Garvey's political project did not get to develop completely, his figure is still an example of solidarity and accomplishment in the entire American continent.
We are Costa Ricans, too.
In the 1880s railroad laborers started to organize in protest against the working conditions and in 1910 the Artisans and Labors Union was formed to fight for the interests of the banana workers during the contract renegotiation with the United Fruit Company.
During the crisis of 1930, racist politics prohibited the afro population move to the Pacific to work in the new UFC premises.
It was not after 70 years that the children of Afro-Caribbean born in Costa Rica were able to be recognized as Costa Ricans.
