Also, no advancements could be made because people were to busy to survive. Finally because the people were illiterate people did not write much. That means we do not know much about the time period. Part of the reason why it was called the dark ages.
Well, for one thing, when Rome fell the powerful lords called themselves kings and fought for land. Those poor people caught in the middle of that!
