- 1. Jim Crow EraThese were laws put in place to further discriminate and dehumanize against black folks in America, mainly the south. These included anti-voting laws made to keep black people from voting. These were things like poll taxes, which Freedmen could not pay, literacy tests which they could not pass, and the Grandfather clause.
- 2. SharecroppingThis was a way to essentially re-invent slavery, or at least severely exploit farmers. This was where a white person owned land and let a poor farmer use their land and tools to grow crops. The farmer was trying to pay off the price of the seeds, tools, and land they used. The landowner kept increasing their debt while taking majority to all of their profits, keeping them working.
