  • In this part of the story Gilain who is taking Will and Horace on an adventure to the kingdom to warn them of the incoming threats moves, realizes that they are out of their respective apprenticeships must train to keep them sharp and ready
  • Nothings even hitting him!
  • "come on!" "Do it as if you mean it!"
  • Horace is confused. why should he be training for ranger skills, Gilain informs him that it is combat skills not just ranger skills.
  • Gilain chooses Horace first, Gilain even as a ranger is highly trained with a sword. Horace does not know this, Horace is currently training in battleschool with a sword, and doesn't think a ranger like Gilain could be any powerful.

  • Horace try's his best in an attempt to swing at Gilain but not once does it hit him. Gilain eggs him on to hit harder like he means it.
  • Horace takes a deep breath and hits with a full blown blow. He goes harder and harder, trying each time not getting through to Gilain.
  • This is a pivotal point in Horaces character as he realizes in the grand scheme of things he is not a great swordsmen, he strikes harder and harder not even caring for gilains safety
