  • And there is your bowl.
  • Born living a life of luxury without experiencing pain or sadness. When Siddhartha grew up, his father protected him from everything unpleasant. The prince had never seen anyone poor, sad, or sick.
  • I just passed out and you think that is ok!
  • Siddhartha goes outside of village and sees a man leaning on a stick. He goes out again and sees a man shrunken by disease. The second to last time Siddhartha goes out he sees people crying around a person that has died. The last time he goes out he sees a holy man that was homeless but enlightened, and Siddhartha wanted to achieve that.
  • He goes in search for this enlightenment and only lives on the food that people gave him. His only possession was a bowl. This way to seek enlightenment that the gurus gave him was not reasonable to him.
  • He decided to stay with some extreme religious people that only had two possessions. The two possessions were a yellow robe and a bowl for food. One day he passes out from not enough food. When he wakes up he is unhappy with the people so he leaves.
  • Siddhartha meditated for 49 days under a bodhi tree trying to achieve enlightenment. He was later greeted by Mara a goddess, who was trying to bribe him to stop meditating for great fortune but he refused to. He later saw his past lives and achieved enlightenment.
