  • My, he's pretty stiff,...Where'd you get him?
  • Bought him off'n a boy for a blue ticket and a bladder.
  • Is that so? I know something better.
  • Say- what is dead cats good for, Huck?
  • I bet you don't. What is it?
  • Good for? Cure warts with.
  • On the way to school, Tom encounters Huckleberry Finn, the son of the town drunkard. Many kids admired him for his lawless nature, while their mothers despised him for the same reason. Tom starts to talk to Huck Finn when he starts to become interested in his dead cat.
  • You wouldn't, would you? D'you ever try it?
  • Why, spunk-water of course!
  • Spunk-water! I wouldn't give a dern for spunk-water.
  • Huck gives Tom the lifeless cat and Tom becomes very curious and starts to asks questions. Huck says that he got the cat by trading a blue ticket that he bought from Ben Rogers, and by trading a bladder he got at a slaughter house. Tom continues to observe the dead body.
  • Where you know there's a spunk water stump,
  • and just as it's midnight you back up against the stump and jam your hand in and say:
  • You got to go all by yourself to the middle of the woods,
  • No, I hadn't.
  • Tom finishes his observations, give the cat back to Huck, and stands up. Tom, being the curious fellow he is, asks Huck what a dead cat is good for. Huck replies by telling Tom that their good for curing warts, but Tom knows something better.
  • Then walk away quick, eleven steps, with your eyes shut, and then turn around three times and walk home without speaking to anybody. Because if you speak, the charm's busted.
  • Barley-corn, barley-corn, injun-meal shorts. Spunk-water, Spunk-water, swaller these warts!
  • Tom's tells Huck his solution to curing warts, and it's by using Spunk-water. Huck doesn't believe Tom, and he basically says that he wouldn't bet on it working. Tom then asks Huck if he has ever tried it personally.
  • Huck realizes that he has never tried it, and Tom then goes on to explain how it works. He tells Huck where he needs to go, When he needs to go, and What he needs to do.
  • In this scene, Tom is seen performing the act, and then he elaborates on the details. Tom says what Huck would need to do after putting his hand in, and what he needs to do going home.
