Britain founded the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC). Both the french and the british were trading with the first nations people all over the east and north of canada.They were competing in the fur trade, against each other. Britain controlled the area arounf d the Hudson's Bay while the French had control over the Great lakes and St. Lawrence river.

The French and the British both fished of the East coast of what is now Canada. While they were in that area they were on Mi'Kmaq territory. They began to interact with them and even engage in some trading
The north west company were given a monopoly over the french fur trade. Now two british companys were going head to head in a race to the west for the unclaimed territory to continue the fur trade in more depth and make more partners and trades and to outdue the other company.
