  • Once upon a time, the gods needed a more subtle praise than obedience. Athene, the goddess of wisdom, taught men the arts they needed to know through firing the brightest spirits to perceive the secret laws of nature and make discoveries and inventions. Her favorite among mortals was an Athenian named Daedalus, who was honored in the white city of the goddess for his many treasures.
  • ATHENS
  • Daedalus was working on a special blade to cut wood more quickly than a knife or an ax, but he couldn't get it right. One day, while going to his workshop, he heard a curious sound, and it was his nephew, Talos, who had come earlier. Talos had taken the backbone of a fish and used it as a saw to cut through a piece of driftwood. Daedalus was pleased with his nephew's invention and took him to Athene's temple to give thanks for the timely inspiration.
  • What are you doing Nephew?
  • Daedalus was not content with his nephew's success and decided to take all the credit. He pushed Talos off the temple, and Athene caught him in mid-air, turning him into a partridge. She withdrew her favor from Daedalus, and he left the city, taking Talos' saw design with him to Crete.
