Ignatius in Manresa
Society of Jesus Creation
In the battle of Pamplona, Ignatius was struck by a cannonball which shattered his right shin. The French admired his bravery and they took him to a resting place for his body to heal. The Spanish surrendered the fight and the French took over Pamplona. In his recovery, he read 2 books, the life of Christ and the life of saints.
Ignatius went to Manresa for 5 nights or so but ended up being 10-11 months praying and confessing his sins to Jesus. This was very important to Ignatius' life because this took him into spiritual exercises and his relationship with God. Also because the exercises were seeking with God and connecting to God.
Ignatius, Francis Xavier, and Peter Faber created the society of Jesus on the 15th of August 1534 in Paris, France, and Montmartre. In later years, the Society of Jesus grew and people like Aloysius Gonzaga, Edmund Campion, and many more. This is like the catholic church except it is for the Jesuits.
