- Lyddie receives a letter with bad grammar from her mother. It's contents state that she and Charlie must work at the factory while she stays with their aunt.
- Lyddie is debating on whether or not she should sign the contract to work at the factory. She is fearful about staying there forever, and not being able to return to the farm.
- A big ferocious bear enters Lyddie's Cabin due to Charlie leaving the door open. She is the only one who has the knowledge to tackle it and keep her family safe.
