December 1878: Frere issues an ultimatum to Cetshwayo that the Zulu Kingdom should not provoke war and dismantle their strengthening military system. Not meeting the ultimatum, the Zulu Kingdom was soon invaded by the British under the leadership of Lord Chelmsford.
