Josephine, Mrs. Mallards sister, had informed Mrs. Mallard of her husbands death cautiously due to Mrs. Mallards heart troubles. Richards, Mrs. Mallards husbands friend, was the one who found out about her husbands death.
Mrs. Mallard cried into her sisters arms after finding out about her husbands death. After she had stopped crying Mrs. Mallard walked to her room alone.
She sat in her armchair and started to process her thoughts and emotions. She noticed the blue skies and felt relieved and free to live a life for herself.
Josephine begged Mrs. Mallard to open the door, and insisted Mrs. Mallard was making herself ill. After a while she opened the door to her sister.
Mrs. Mallard and Josephine walked down the stairs together. They were met with Richards at the bottom, and Brently Mallard opening the front door. Richards tried to screen Brently from his wife's view, but it was too late.
After seeing her husband walk into the house alive, Mrs. Mallard had died. The doctors who came said her death was from joy.
