  • Here Odysseus's crew plunders and enslaves women to resupply for their journey. He then lets his men to eat till they are full and tells them to then leave when done. They did not listen and rebelled. Because of this the Fugitives escaped and killed at least 6 benches of men from each ship.
  • The Land of the Dead
  • Odysseus and his crew retreat by sea. Zeus had roused a storm against the ships. They decided to pull over to the nearest shore and landed in the land of the Lotus-eaters after two days. The Lotus Eaters gave Odysseus’s men lotus plants to eat which caused Odysseus' men to lose memory and all desire to leave that land. Odysseus barely gets them back to sea. They then moved out again to their sea faring.
  • The Sirens
  • Odysseus reaches the land of the Cyclops and meets them. A cyclop keeps Odysseus and his 12 best fighters in a cave as he sleeps. But, this cyclop was blinded and also got drunk since Odysseus gave him too much wine that put him in a deep sleep. So then Odysseus put a burning stake into the Cyclops' eye. He also hung the Cyclops’ sheep from their bottoms to escape. When the giant woke up, he touched each sheep one by one but couldn't find Odysseus and his man under the sheep making it a successful escape. Odyssey lost 6 men thought.
  • Scylla and Charybdis Cattle of the Sun God
  • Odysseus does not have another choice. He must go to the Land of the Dead. Following the instructions he was given, he digs a trench and pours milk, honey, and sacrificed animals' blood. The blood and offerings attract the spirits of the dead. Thebes then tells Odysseus that he is going to face obstacles on his way back to Ithica since Poseidon is angry about what Odysseus did to Polyphemus and tells him advice.
  • Odysseus and his man had beeswax on their ears to save themselves from the sirens singing but Odysseus urged his crew to tie him up against the pole on the boat. He told his men to not untie him even if he urged them to since he knew he was going to be controlled by the sirens. Directed by his interest, Odysseus was the only one who wanted to hear the sirens singing. He lost six men per ship on this trip. Finally, he moved on and sailed past them.
  • Charybdis threatens to wipe out the whole ship, Scylla eats six of his sailors, but he was able to survive. Later Odysseus went to sleep and while he did that Eurylochus persuaded his men to eat the cattle of the sun. Odysseus woke up to find that the men had broken their oaths and listened to Eurylochus. This is why the role of Odysseus and Eurylochus became reversed.
