After 7 years of training, they became a journeyman.
After this they applied to become a master craftsman. They had to create a masterpiece as a test. Graded by the guild. If accepted, he could set up his own workshop.
Now paid for work and could travel to. different towns to gain experience.
Craftsmen joined the guild for their profession. These were organisations for each trade which set standards, prices and wages. Guilds charged a fee for membership.
