Today we are talking about how to solve a problem with multipleoperations.
(4 + 6)^2/(2 ∗ 5) − 10 + 3 ∗ 5 = x
Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, SubtractionWe will be using PEMDAS:
Jason can you tell me what the first step is?
10^2/(10) − 10 + 3 ∗ 5 = x
We first need to do Parenthesis
Awesome!Thea can you tell us what we would need to do then?
The Parenthesis would be the (4+6) and (2*5) because you have to treat the division symbol like a parenthesis
100/(10)− 10 + 3 ∗ 5 = x
Great job Thea.Murphey what is the next step?
We next need to do the exponents of (10)^2
Jason what is the next step?
We now need to do the Multiplication which is 3+5
100/(10) − 10 + 15 = x
10 − 10 + 15 = x
And Murphey what does the D stand for in PEMDAS
The D stands for Division. So that means we have to do 100/(10)
15 = x
Thea what are the last two steps we have to do?
We now do addition and subtraction which is the10-10+15. So x=15 since10-10 = 0 and we are only left with +15.
