Where they bury children.
In the past, Ekwefi had nine children who all died as infants. She was told by a doctor that she was cursed with an ogbanje, a spirit that took over and killed the child and then rebirthed inside the next to cause her grief. Ekwefi becomes hopeless and bitter.
The iyi-uwa
Ezinma was the first child to live older than a couple years, and she was determined to live. Once Ezinma lived to five and six years, Ekwefi began to truly care for her.
Ezinma is still a ogbanje, and so in order to stop it Okonkwo sees a doctor who specializes in them. The doctor asks Ezinma to take him to its iyi-uwa, the ogbanje's physical link to the Earth.
Ezinma identifies where the iyi-uwa is under an orange tree. Okonkwo and the doctor dig it up with hoes throughout the day. Ezinma is now free and will not die. In the present, however, Ekwefi is still very worried about her daughter whenever she gets sick.
Its here.
