Hi! I'm John and I'm going to tell you facts about the Sumerian government.
Fact paragraph 1:When the city states started to battle over water/ land rights/ etc, the city states created a kingship, the law/s of of each city state were in the hands of a LUGAL(strong man.) The lugal supervised in wars and was evolved in important trade.
Fact paragraph 2:summers city states battled each other continuity for land/water rites, etc. One king might make a large alliance, but no one managed to rule them all until Eannutem(the king) of Lagash, who managed to make most of summers city states obey his rule. Then Enattum of Umma held that empire together until he was overpowered by Sargon the great. -
-Sargon originated from northern Mesopotamia. The Akkadin EMPIRE ruled summer for the next 150 years. But would rise again during the Sumerian renaissance of 2047-1750 b.c.
Fact paragraph 3:Summers civilizations provided the world many first things: legal codes, court system, schools, proverbs, moral and ethical ideas, mathematical systems, libraries, bronze, writing, astrological signs, our division of time in hours and minuets and many technol inventions.
Fact paragraph 4:In summer there is no standing army, however, there might have been some professional solders in summer. when the king, high priest and the counsel of elders decided for the need of war, they called all free male citizens to army. each citizen had to bring his own weapon, the common weapons were: bows, spheres, sling-
-shots, battle axes, maces and knives. Armor that protected men were rare, but many men carried shields. professional solders wore copper helmets.
Fact paragraph 5:When cities went to war, the people of Umma and Lagash did too around 2525 b. c. The citizen armies come out of there cities and meet for war on open land. At 300 feet apart, each army's archers would shoot. The many arrows killed many people. Then, the armies loaded themselves with spears. In minuets, spears and rocks throne by slingshots were everywhere and more people died. In the olden days-
-the armies with the most men standing won the day. A stele(stone slab) raised by the king of Lagash tells the victory of the city over there neighbor and enemy city state, Umma. The ARTIFACT stele of vultures shows the rank of solders in a phalanx( a lot of troops or police officers standing or moving in close formation.)
Fact paragraph 6:The king of Lagash rode to the battle in the chariot of the olden days-a clumsy, heavy cart pulled by four onagers or half wiled beast. his armies were armed with spears and wile wearing copper helmets and short, armored cloak's for protection. Sumerian military innovation includes: the chariot, helmet, armored cloak, bronze axes and the phalanx formation in battle.
