  • The stamp act was a way to impose a direct tax on the British colonies in America and required that materials be stamped.
  • Intolerable acts (May 20, 1774)
  • INTOLERABLE ACTS
  • A series of measures passed by british parliment that taxed goods imported to the American colonies.
  • Salutary Neglect (March 22, 1775)
  • The Boston tea party was a political protest in response to the british parilments tax on tea by the sons of liberty. As a response, parliment passed the Intolerable acts which prevented sea trade to occur until colonists paid for the damanged tea.
  • Common Sense (Jan 9th, 1776)
  • A series of laws passed by the British parliament that aimed to punish the colonists for their defiance after the boston tea party.
  • An unwritten Unofficial policy allowing North American colonies to be left on their own without British interference.
  • Published by Thomas Paine, the pamphlet Common Sense was written in favor of American independance. Because it inspired Americans to see themselves as citizens of a seperate country rather than british colonists, this pamphlet played a big part in the start of the Revolution.
