- He was dissatisfied with being poor and quit college after 2 weeks and worked odd jobs, one day he saw a yacht owned by Dan cody and warned him of an upcoming storm and to thank him, he made him his personal assistant.
- Cody was a heavy drinker, and one of the Gatsby's job was to look after him during his drunken binges. This gave Gatsby a healthy respect for the dangers of alcohol and convinced him not to become a drinker himself.
- After dan cody died his mistress prevented gatsby from claiming the inheritance he left for him.
- Tom and Daisy goes to a party at Gatsby's house. He shows off his wealth by introducing him to celebrities who show up.
- Gatsby knows that Daisy did not like the party because the people behaved chaotically. He wants her to say she did not love tom and divorce him.
