  • Oedipus: Where are the killers? How, after so many years, canwe find a clue to solve the crime?
  • Creon: A murder blew the deadly plague breath on our city. Laius, he was murdered. Apollo demands that we takerevenge upon the man who killed him.
  • To his children he will be both brother and father.To her who gave him birth both son and husband.And to his father he will be both killer and the man who sharedhis bed.
  • You are the killer. You bring the pollution upon Thebes.
  • I think it was you, yes you, who planned the murder.
  • I have no longing for the name of king. I prefer to live like one.
  • Oedipus accuses Creonof betrayal and of conspiring with Teiresias to overthrow the throne.
  • Since Oedipus has saved the city before, the priest asks him to do it once again. Oedipus then sends Creon to speak to Apollo's oracle. Creon then explains what Apollo said.
  • Jocasta asks the chorus about the fight. The chorus says that both men are to blame.
  • Chorus suggests Oedipus speak with the prophet Teiresias, because he can speak with Apollo. When Oedipus asks Teiresiasfor help in finding the killers, the prophet refuses. Teiresias then says he will not tell what he has seen because it wouldhurt both him and Oedipus.
  • The word was that Laius would die at the hand of his ownson ... my child and his.

  • Oedipus accuses Creon of betrayal and of conspiring with Teiresias to overthrow the throne. Creon says he can prove that he has no desire to be king.

  • There was no one else. But if he says there was only one, myguilt is inescapable.
  • If Oedipus doubts him, Creon urges him to visit the oracle at Delphi. If the oracle says he is guilty, then Creon would agree with being put to death. When Jocasta arrives she then advises Oedipus to trust Creon.
  • Jacosta shares details about Laius's death, which she heard from a surviving servant, and then Oedipus grows worried. He learns that there's a witness, who left the palace, and Oedipus wants them at the palace quickly. Oedipus shares his fears with Jacosta. Supposedly, Oedipus's parents are the King and Queen of Corinth, but he suspects if it's true. He then leaves his home city because Apollo tells him a prophet, which he hopes to avoid.
  • Oedipus tells his story now. On his way to Thebes, he came upon 3 roads that met, and there was a man, maybe Laius, Oedipus ended up killing him and his companions. Oedipus then fears that he killed Laius and touched Jacosta. Oedipus then agrees to not worry much until the witness arrives and confirms that there were multiple attackers, and not only one.
