- The architecture of our small intestine is very important. It is necessary that it has enough surface area. The more surface area, the more nutrients absorbed. Most nutrients are absorbed in the duodenum. If you elect me, I'll make sure you have enough surface area.

- Well actually, Bob, having a lot of surface area in your small intestine is more important than it seems. The small intestine is about 23 feet long. It's a small space compared to how much surface area I'm planning to add to it. If you elect me, I promise to add more folds to the inside of the small intestine, adding even more surface area.

- Who cares about this surface area junk?! The intestine's interior would be much better if it was smooth, so then it wouldn't look as ugly. If you elect me, I'll make your small intestine look good. Even though you probably won't be able to see it..

- Oh, I have bigger plans than just wrinkles, Bob. If you elect me to be the designer of the small intestine, I'll add tiny fingerlike projections that add to the surface area and nutrient absorption. I have decided to call them "villi" after my Aunt Velma. Atop them, I will add even smaller ones called microvilli!
