After the lockdown period when we started playing in the community park again, I noticed a granny sitting alone in the same bench every day. She seemed to be sad and blue. One day, on may way back, I went to her and said 'Hi'. She returned me a 'Hi' with a smile, and it encouraged me to sit and continue to have a conversation with her.
Hi Aunty!
Then she told me that she came to spend few days with her daughter and son-in-law and got stuck here due to the pandemic. Now that all are busy with work back, she is really missing her home and friends back in India. I felt sad for her as I could very well understand the pain of missing friends.
Do you mind if I ask, why are you so gloomy?
I asked more about her friends and she was excited to tell about them. She said her best friend sings very nicely and then I told her even I love to sing. And that was it! She was soo very happy to hear that. She asked me if I can sing for her, which I accepted with great pleasure.
We enjoyed a wonderful melodious evening and she talked a lot about her favorite songs. I too was so happy to know about such beautiful old songs.
Then we met often at the same spot and relished singing and chatting. And one day she told me that, she is returning to India with her daughter and son-in-law in coming weekend.
Hello Madhav!
Hello Aunty!
I was so happy for her, and sang all her favorite songs that day. She thanked me for being so kind and friendly. I too thanked her, because she helped me realize how old people are feeling lonely these days, including my grandparents.
