We all have stress. Stress is a tense feeling caused by uneasy conditions. Eustress, a type of stress, is a positive type of stress that can motivate you. On the other hand, distress is more of a negative type of stress that can often make you feel anxious or uncomfortable. Ways to cope with stress include listening to music, talking with friends, and reading.
David is a seventh grader who recently moved to a new school and is interested in participating in after-school activities to spend time with his new friends.

Talking with friends was a helpful strategy because David could take his mind off of his problems. David could discuss topics that made him happy. With friends that David trusted, he told of his problems which relieved some of his stress because he was able to release it. Knowing how he was feeling, David’s friends could then make him feel better or get him a trusted adult to talk to if it was really bothering him.
In the end, David’s friends helped him practice before the tryouts and taught him some helpful skills. This released David’s stress and he felt a lot better, which allowed him to focus on his schoolwork and other important daily activities.
