Peter the Hermit and his army of crusaders were the first to leave for the Holy land. His army was not trained well and the Turks killed most of them before they reached the Holy Land. Muslims of the middle East were very divided, so when the Crusaders attacked them by surprise. They later conquered Jerusalem in 1099, and four crusader states were set up in the Holy Land.
Did you hear? They pope is sending a crusade to free the Holy land!
We should pray before battle to cleanse our sins and minds for the battle.
The crusaders were very devoted to their work.#160; They were Christians, and they were trying to conquer all of Europe. By conquering Europe they planned to convert everyone to Christianity. They believed that being crusaders would clear their sins from them.
I'm calling for a second crusade. The Muslims conquered the northern state of Edessa by counter-attacking it in 114.
The second crusade was organized by the German emperor, and King Louis VII of France. The crusade failed even after other people had joined it. This crusade failed because Palestine's majority race was Muslims, and the crusaders treated them with disrespect which led them to gain no public support. Their leaders also often argued.
I'm Richard I of England, and I'm the leader of this crusade.
The crusade of Kings, or the third crusade began in 1189. It was organized by Germany, France, and England's rulers. Richard I developed a relationship with the Saladin's, and they helped them win many victories. The Saladins signed a truce with Richard I and they ended the crusade.
Let's hurt their woman and take their relics!
After the third crusade ended in 1204, the fourth started. People raided the Byzantine capital, Constantinople for three days. They attacked women, smashed Christian icons, and stole relics. The Byzantines never forgave them after this incident, and the Pope was greatly embarrassed of the crusades.
There were later crusades after these four. They went through Germany and France. The poor of all ages were attacked, and killed. The crusades had a long run, but were soon forced out of the Holy Land.  The Egyptians defeated the last crusader state in 1291.
