- ¨One morning, when Gregor Samsa woke from troubled dreams, he found himself transformed in his bed into a horrible vermin. He lay on his armour-like back, and if he lifted his head a little he could see his brown belly, slightly domed and divided by arches into stiff sections.¨ Paragraph 1
- “How about if I sleep a little bit longer and forget all this nonsense”, he thought.. paragraph 3
- “What’s happened to me?”
- ¨He looked over at the alarm clock, ticking on the chest of drawers. “God in Heaven!” he thought. It was half past six and the hands were quietly moving forwards, it was even later than half past, more like quarter to seven. ¨ Paragraph 6
- “Gregor”...“it’s quarter to seven. Didn’t you want to go somewhere?” said his mother. Paragraph 7
- Then his mother shuffled away
- “Yes, mother, yes, thank-you, I’m getting up now.” Paragraph 7
- After a little while Gregor sister said, “Gregor, open the door, I beg of you.” Paragraph 7
- Gregor had no intent to open the door but ¨instead congratulated himself for his cautious habit, acquired from his traveling, of locking all doors at night even when he was at home.¨ Paragraph 7
