- Rainsford falls off the yacht and washes up on Ship-Trap Island. He wanders around the island and finds an estate occupied by a very talented hunter, General Zaroff, and his henchman Ivan.
- Falling Action
- How did you get in here?!
- After discovering that Zaroff is hunting humans, "the most dangerous game", he is offered to play a game with Zaroff, a hunting game in which Rainsford is the prey. Believing he can outwit the general, he accepts the challenge and takes off.
- Resolution
- After being chased by the ruthless Zaroff, Rainsford is cornered between the raging seas and the bloodthirsty hounds. Unsure of what to do, he leaps into the ocean, escaping from the dogs.
- Zaroff, after the disappointment of Rainsford's death, retires for the night after a lonely dinner with no servant. Awaiting him in his bedroom is Rainsford, miraculously alive after his reckless plan. He battles with the defenseless general and succeeds in taking his life.
- Rainsford sleeps in Zaroff's bed, a bed he deems the best he's ever slept in, after a long struggle in Zaroff's hunt.
