Stella Walker is the protagonist of this book. The story takes place in Argleton, Virginia. Rob Walker is Stella's brother who suffers from PTSD after coming home from the war. He serves as a US Marine. Farida El-Rahim is Stella's best friend. Her parents are Iraqi immigrants. They own a restaurantcalled The Tigris.

After serving in combat as a US Marine in Afghanistan, Rob suffers from PTSD. PTSD is a mental health problem that some people develop after experiencing a severe traumatic event, such as war. Rob has constant flashbacks from the war.Afterhis fellow marine committed suicide, his behavior has significantly worsened.He has not gone to college for weeks. Rob's PTSD and short temper lead to the climax of the story.

His parents discuss his need for help, but Rob does not want to admit that he needs help because he does not want his dad to think that he is weak. To help Rob back to himself, Stella takes him out for a movie. Stella hopes thatherbrother will have fun going out with her. Rob enjoys the movie and offers togo to the creamsicle shop in the food court. Stella agrees to go. The visit to the food court is what leads to the climax.

Rob and Stella walk into the shop and see a Sikh janitor being bullied by a teen named Jed. Rob demands an apology from Jed. When Jed refuses, Robpickshim up by his shirt and asks him again. Jed then calls him a terroristlover.Robstarts punching Jed on his face and breaks his nose. Afterwards,Robisarrested. In my opinion, this is the climax because all of Rob'sproblemsfromhistemper,emotions, and PTSD all come to a head.

When Rob assaulted Jed, someone took a video of the fight. The video has gone viral onsocialmedia. Some people in the community believe that the Walker familyand the El-Rahim family, who are good friends with the Walkers, support terrorists. People do not want to come to the restaurant that is owned by the El-Rahims anymore and leave bad reviews. The El-Rahims are in big trouble because theydo not have manycustomers.

Rob is finally able to talk to Adam, Stella's boyfriend. Talking to Adam helps to tone downRob's temper. Rob is also able to get help from the VA for his PTSD. He is slowlycoming back to normal. People also realize that Farida and her family have nothing to do withterrorists. People start going back to their restaurant again.
