  • Monarchy is rule by a king, or queen, and they usually gain power because there parents were rulers also. Example of a monarchy is Queen Elizabeth II who presently rules over Britain.
  • Dictatorship
  • Direct Democracy is when all citizens directly control and are responsible for the laws that govern their society. Example of a direct democracy is ancient Athens.
  • Theocracy
  • Anarchy is a form of government where no one is in charge and there are no rules. This type of government usually leads to violence and destruction. An example of Anarchy is when Albania's government collapsed which lead to a temporary state of Anarchy.
  • Oligarchy
  • Dictatorship is when power is not inherited, but is usually acquired by force. A dictator has absolute power and control over the lives of there citizens. An example of a dictatorship is Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea.
  • A theocracy is rule by god or a higher power. Religious leaders usually lead the society and religious laws are used to settle disputes and rule the people. The Islamic Republic of Iran is an example of modern theocracy.
  • Oligarchy means rule by a few. Only a few people rule based on military strength, family power, or religious force. Examples include China.
