Medusa, along with her two sisters, was stunning. Other gods were furious, and many men were drawn to them.

Poseidon, Athena's enemy, spotted Medusa one day and planned to embarrass Athena by rapping the goddess on the temple steps. Poseidon then fled, leaving Medusa unprotected and alone.

Medusa bowed to Athena for forgiveness. After all, the gods claimed their lovers as their partners for all time in those days, and Medusa was now Poseidon's wife. Athena cursed Medusa for betraying her and stared down in rage.

Medusa was banished to a distant island and cursed to attract no suitors. Her characteristic snake hair and stone eyes were gifted to her. Medusa has transformed into a monster.
