- The Middle Ages were a time when the once great Roman Empire was living in their own filth. The only thing that survived the 1000 years of devastation was Christianity and Catholic Church.
- The general population of the Middle Ages lived in filthy conditions. After the fall of the Roman Empire society had digressed 2000 years. There was no sanitary and living conditions were very close to modern day sewers. 99.9% of the population could not read. Most of the population was unaware of the world outside of their own village or town. These conditions led to the general masses putting their faith in the only complex constitution that remained ... the Roman Catholic Church and Christianity.
